The Department of Civil Protection of Mazarrón Town Hall is organising this weekend "Orientation Course II in Nature", during which participants who want to join the activity will acquire the techniques and skills necessary to navigate and orient themselves in any circumstances , either in games or in emergency situations. The initiative is with the participation of 20 volunteers from Civil Protection, Red Cross and the hiking club "Friends of Nature".
This is a free course organized by the municipality in collaboration with the general direction of Public Safety and Emergency Murcia and has the support of the Department of Youth. The trainer of the Municipal Emergency Services (EMS), Daniel J. Aragon, has developed this training package which has been approved by the DGSE, which consists of 30 hours of theoretical / practical learning to be developed in the vicinity of Mazarrón and the Natural Park of Sierra Espuña.
The course is divided into 2 parts. On 14th and 15th, with a duration of 20 hours, the orientation course will develop theoretical / practical learning from scratch. On 21st, lasting 10 hours, will be the part of the "Improvement". Participants will travel to Sierra Espuña where they will learn to orient themselves in unfamiliar territory without technical means, ie without a compass, and only with an official map of orientation.
The sport of Orientation covers the basics for anyone wanting to acquire the skills and techniques needed to locate, find locations and navigate safely in any environment, whether on known territory or completely unknown.
April last year marked the first course with a total of 19 volunteers and staff of emergency services in the municipality. This year, places have been offered for volunteers working with the Department of Youth.
