The festivities in honour of San Jose, patron of Puerto de Mazarrón, this year will be held in the morning and afternoon to take advantage of the warm temperatures that March enjoys in the seaside resort . This is one of the major developments that were announced by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, and Councillor of Celebration , Isidro Coy, who were accompanied by Red Cross President , Carmen Navarro, to present the bulk of the festive activities programme taking place from Friday 14 to Sunday 23 March.

Isidro Coy explained that " some activities are already being celebrated such as the ' Ruta del Aperitivo ' which commenced on  1st and the  XXIV Racing Pigeons Spanish Championship which will open to the public on Wednesday, March 12 , and can be enjoyed from the exhibition of these birds until 15 March. " The Mayor said that from Saturday 15th " major events in the morning and afternoon will be the focus to take advantage of the good weather.”

On Friday 14th at 5pm sees the 2 x 1 Fair Ride in Paseo de Rihuete and at 7pm the IV Tennis Tournament " Frutas Arias " commences which will end on March 19 . On Saturday 15th , from 10:30am, in the plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas  the orchestra " Burma " performs and at 4pm commnences the traditional Petanca Championship in honour of San Jose in the courts at Rihuete . In the evening , at 5pm in the plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas  “Show de la Pandilla de Drilo” caters for the youngsters with ‘El show del tigre Peligre’.

On Sunday March 16th , at 12 noon there will be a Mass in the plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas  followed by a meeting of  Murcian “Rocieros” , which organizes the Rociero 'Aires de Mazarrón ' Association .

On 19th March, a parade commenes at 10:30am  led by the Band ' Frescos ' , another novelty of this year. At  12pm, Mass will be held in honour of the Patron in the Church of San José with a subsequent procession through the streets . Also at noon the sports complex of the Media Leagua will host a match between veterans CD Bala Azul and Mazarrón C. F. That day the II Beach Soccer Tournament ' Fiestas de San José '  begins , predictably, at 10am on the beach in La Reya (Bahía Grande) .

On Friday March 21st,  traditional food will be enjoyed by the Seniors of the Municipality in the Sports Hall ' Manuela Romero ' starting at 2pm . The Councillor of Celebration confirmed there will be a bus from the Day Centre as well as from the bus stop in Avda Constitucion,  Mazarrón from 12:30pm.

On Saturday March 22nd , from 11am sees the parade by members of the Centro Social del Puerto, that will start from Rihuete , and proceed along the Paseo . At 12:30pm there will be a tribute to ' Fito y Fitipaldis ' in the plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas and a performance by Pandilla de Drilo with  ‘Cantabaila’.

The events will end on Sunday 23 March with the event organized by the Red Cross of Mazarrón ‘Muévete, ahora más que nunca’  and presentation of awards for  ‘Ruta del Comercio’ and  la ‘Ruta del Aperitivo’ at 5pm and 6pm respectively . Carmen Navarro explained that the activity ‘Muévete, ahora más que nunca’  will be held in the plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas between 11am and 2pm. " For just 2€ you can enjoy activities carried out by  ‘bahía Sur’, ‘Olimpo’, ‘La Aceña’  and Dance School‘Antonio Jara and a snack courtesy of the Red Cross”,  Navarro said, adding that " in addition , those who wish may bring to the gyms or the Puerto paseo a kilo of food to help families in need.”

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo , said that " we have redesigned with particular fondness a very full programme , in which there are activities for both children and adults , but also the athletic, recreational and musical aspect covering a joint collaboration with the Red Cross . “ The Mayor responsible for Celebrations also thanked Francisco Martínez , better known as 'Paco Piña ' , having taken the photograph illustrating the celebrations this year.

Their monthly Chatters meeting this month when Bill will be giving a talk on diabetes. Around 15 months ago Bill suffered a stroke , and after various tests, he was diagnosed with diabetes.. Instead of becoming a victim, he addressed the situation positively and determined, and now leads a full, normal, healthy and very active life. He says “before the diagnosis, I ate too ‘heartily’, and with hindsight drank much more than was good for me. I didn’t exercise as much as I used to, and had got used to being overweight. This really was a wake-up call for me, and gave me the push that I needed to change my lifestyle to a more healthy one. Please don’t let diabetes ruin your life, my own life has now changed so much for the better” Come along to Bacchus Restaurant, Urb Oasis on Wednesday March 19th at 11.30 and hear what Bill has to say about his experience, and share your own doubts, experiences and questions with other Diabetics.. HAH Clinical Lead, Lynda will be on hand to offer medical advice, in a group, or one to one advice on other medical problems can be arranged, Following the talk, there will be a meal which can be enjoyed by everyone, including Diabetics, for just 5€ including a drink. During this week , Mazarrón is getting ready to race pigeons at the XXIV Campeonato de España de Palomos de Raza to be held in the town until Sunday 16 March. The presentation of the event was made by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo , National Delegate of Raza de la Real Federación Española de Colombicultura (RFEC), Bernardino Crespo, the Presidente de la Federación Murciana de Colombicultura(FMC), Antonio Serna, and the Presidente del Club de Palomos de Raza ‘Playas de Mazarrón’, Alberto López.

The latter explained that "until March 8 we will receive the pigeons in the store that the Company ' Pataleta ' has given us on the road between Mazarrón and Puerto ." The Club President also thanked  " the Spanish and Murcia Federations for placing their trust in us to organize the event, as well as the support given to us at all times by the City."

Bernardino Crespo announced that " this event will open to the public on 12 to 15 March (10-2pm and 5-8pm) , with the opening of the exhibition on Friday 14 March at 7pm . A day later, the awards and closing ceremony of the championship will be held. " The RFEC National Delegate explained that "we know that Mazarrón is a great place to hold this event as it has a great tradition in this sport,  but it also has the excellent weather "

 Crespo announced " our confidence in the club 'Playas de Mazarrón ' to bring this event with support from the Council and FMC ." Meanwhile, Antonio Serna expressed his " joy because this event is held in our Region and more specifically in Mazarrón , where I have vacationed since childhood ." The President of the FMC hoped that " fans enjoy these days of passion we have for the pigeons ."

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo , said that "we are pleased that a Club of the Municipality has the capacity to organize a tournament of this magnitude , demonstrating that there are people in Mazarrón doing very well and that is to be congratulated . " The Mayor thanked the two federations for their  " full support and cooperation as this appointment is another very positive development for our Town , with the arrival in Mazarrón of  a large number of people from all over Spain ."

Quiz with a difference


The Day Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities of Mazarrón hold this Thursday, March 6 Intercultural Day II . Scheduled activities begin at 9 am with the opening of an exhibition that can be seen until 14 hours. Also, at 10 am, a quiz will be held and a world map mural among all participants will be held .

At 10:30 the ' Diversity Games ' take place and half an hour later attendees can sample different dishes from different cultures participating in the conference . From noon there will be dance performances , a henna workshop and workshop sign language . Finally at 13:30 will see the presentation of medals to users who have been conducting various activities that have been held at the Centre.

These sessions are included in the ' Integration Plan ' Day Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities of Mazarrón, with the aim of promoting the practice of positive attitudes of users in a multicultural environment and to share cultural differences. The Day Centre invites all citizens to visit their facilities in the Calle Reverendo de Anta to share this day.
