MAZARRÓN/FUENTE ALAMO TRIATHALON-SATURDAY 28 APRIL


On Tuesday 24 April the Mayor of Mazarron, Ginés Campillo, and the Mayor of Fuente Alamo, Maria Antonia Conesa, presented the XXIII edition of the National Triathlon "Villa de Fuente Alamo" which this year involves 725 athletes from all corners of Spain .

The presentation also had the presence of Councillors for Sports of Mazarron and Fuente Alamo, Andres Valera and Juan Fulgencio Lopez, and the Athletic Director and Co-ordinator of the Test, Ginés Bermudez. The latter explained that the test "will be divided into 4 outputs to be carried out starting at 5 pm from Rihuete beach." These outputs correspond to the categories Women, Elite Men, Men's Age Group and Absolute. The participants will have some of the leading figures in the sport, as well as several of the Spanish Olympic team.

Maria Antonio Conesa thanked the support shown from the consistory of Mazarron and the Department of Sports for ensuring this event is properly conducted and highlighted "the work of 200 volunteers who are selflessly involved and make possible the realization of this sporting event.”

The triathlon consists of a swimming race of 750 metres in the Playa del Rihuete, a bike ride of 25 kilometers between the two municipalities and a foot race through the town of Fuente Alamo of 5 kilometers. The competition has the support and promotion of companies "Toro Verde" and "Estrella de Levante".

Fuente Alamo City Council has worked hard for the year that celebrates its 25 years of the test to be qualified as international. The Mayor of Mazarron wished that "the competition get it´s distinction. This has our full support. In Mazarrón we know how important sport is and therefore we organise a lot of tournaments and championships that also involve tourist attraction. " Ginés Campillo said that this triathlon is a new opportunity "to publicise the benefits of our municipality."
