FIESTAS DEL MILAGRO, BOLNUEVO, NOVEMBER 2012

Everything is prepared to celebrate another year of the Fiestas del Milagro that has been organized by the Commission of Festivals of Bolnuevo with the contribution of the City Hall of Mazarrón. The main act being the popular pilgrimage with the image of the Purisima Concepcíon carried on Sunday 18 of November that each year gathers hundreds of people both from within the local area as well as throughout other Regions.  The festivals of this year were presented by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, the Councilman of Fiestas, Isidro Coy, the Local Mayor of Moreras, José Antonio González, and the representative of the festival committee, Alfonso Bachelor.

On Friday 9 of November at 9pm the opening takes place by Oihana Muruzabal Hidalgo. This night also features "Que Arte" with Frank Cano and its chorus of dance, Isabel Ruiz, La Rondalla de Mazarrón, los Amigos de las Sevillanas and the dancer Carmen Lara.

On Saturday 10 there are activites and theatrical visits taking place around the Torre de los Caballos revolved around the events of November 17, 1585 when, according to legend, the Purisima Concepcíon expelled an invasion of Berber pirates in the municipality.  These visits will be repeated on Saturday 17 of November at 10am and 5pm.

On Sunday 11 of November the ascent of the Virgin from Bolnuevo to Mazarrón takes place where she will be received in the garden by Civil and Religious authorities. The festivals continue again on Friday 16 with the Reading of the “ Nueves Declaraciones del Milagro” in the Santuario de La Purísima of Mazarrón.

On Saturday 17, “Dia del Milagro”  there will be childlike play for the smallest in Bolnuevo, while in the Sanctuario de Purisima,  Holy Mass will take place. From 5pm, the floral tributes to the Virgin begin.

The night of Saturday 17 in the municipal tent will be filled with good music organised by Sie7e Radio and Costa Calida Radio, local groups Slow Motion, Arsenal and The Slummin Angels as well as the mobile disco which will go on well in to the night. During the evening there will be a Migas Competition .

On the 18th we are awakened by a Diana Floreada at 7am and, half an hour later, Mass begins in Mazarrón.  Afterwards, the image of the Purisima Concepcíon will initiate its return to Bolnuevo accompanied by hundreds of pilgrims that will be able to enjoy a taste of sardine on their arrival at the fishing village.  The "Virgin del Milagro", the name the “mazarroneros”  affectionately refer to as La Purisima  this day, will then rest  in the Chapel of Bolnuevo until next years fiesta.

One must emphasize that the Commission of Festivals has published a video with photos of  "Bolnuevo - yesterday and today” at a price of 7 euro to co-incide with this popular and well known fiesta.  The Councilman Isidro Coy praised "the great effort of the Festivals Commission to design a programme that all are going to enjoy ", as well as emphasising  "the good work of the neighbourhood association Virgen del Milagro, and Las Gredas  for giving these grand days".  The Local Mayor, José Antonio González, encouraged the neighbours to participate with joy and asked that everyone would “make it a good day for the pilgrimage to the Virgen”.

Finally the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, congratulated  the work and the effort undertaken and invited all citizens of the Region of Murcia to come and enjoy this tradition. Finally, he concluded by re-itering that this year "visitors can learn the history and tradition of Mazarrón with theatrical visits we have prepared to also celebrate the 440 Aniversario de la Concesión del Privilegio de Villa”.
