Mazarron FC 2 UCAM
Guadalupe 2
Thanks to an
injury time penalty, Mazarron gained a deserved draw against UCAM Guadaloupe on
Sunday. Once again neither team was able to play good football due to the state
of the pitch but Mazarron continued to try for the whole of the match and were
finally rewarded in the 93rd minute when Matt Clarke was bundled
over by the keeper when chasing a through ball from Jose Da.
After a good 5 minutes of disputes and
treatment for the keeper, who surprisingly only received a yellow card for his
challenge, Jose Da defied his youth and inexperience by coolly scoring from the
spot kick.
Play was
even for the first 20 minutes with chances coming for both sides but the
deadlock was broken in the 26th minute when the UCAM keeper missed a
back pass and had to retrieve it from inside the 6 yard box with his hands,
thereby giving away a free kick.
With
everyone except Ruben in the box the ball was touched to Jose Da who placed it
over the top of the wall and keeper into the net to give Mazarron the lead.
Several
scoring attempts came and went for both sides until in the 42nd
minute Pollo cleared a corner by hitting it onto the bar but the ball
eventually was returned into the box and finally into the net. A brilliant save
from Ruben kept the scores level at half time but shortly after the restart
with most of the Mazarron defense waiting for a nonexistent offside flag, UCAM
took the lead.
In the past,
Mazarron heads may have dropped at this stage but this no longer seems to be
the case since the introduction of Jelco as coach and despite having a “goal” from
Matt Clarke disallowed for offside the team continued to try to the end and
were rewarded with the equalizer in injury time.
It was
another encouraging performance by the youngsters, superbly led by Diego who
was a tower of strength once again at the back and fully deserved yet another
Man of the Match award. Hopefully the new supporters who came to the game as
part of the Los Amigos de Mazarron Awareness Week promotion will return again to support the team.
Team: Ruben, Dani, Pollo, Diego, Víctor, Ahmed, Guillermo
(Alfonso), Jose Da, Matt Clarke, Pescau (Rollon) , Edin (Jose).
