THEATRE PERFORMANCE - 18 MAY

The school's theatre group "La Acena" and the Music Association “Maestro Eugenio Calderón” join forces to offer an interesting cultural evening. Specifically, both will stage the musical tale "Around the World in 80 Days" on Saturday May 18 in collaboration with the City of Mazarrón. The event will take place in the school at 8pm. "Around the World in 80 Days", written by the French novelist Jules Verne, is a captivating story set in 1872, the same year it was written. It features the adventures of the phlegmatic and solitary British gentleman Phileas Fogg and his assistant "Picaporte" on a trip around the world.

Phileas Fogg, British, perfectionist, calculating, methodical and orderly, abandons his life to fulfill a bet with his colleagues of the "Reform Club", in which he risks his fortune by committing to go around the world in just eighty days. Accompanying him on his adventure was his newly hired French butler, "Picaporte", who will have to deal not only with the delays in transportation, but with the persistent persecution of Detective Fix, who is convinced that, before leaving, Mr Fogg robbed the Bank of England. Phileas Fogg used almost every means of transportation known at the time: ships, trains, sledges, elephants, etc., and during the trip met the beautiful Aouida.

The musical story "Around the World in 80 Days" is an adaptation of the original work in alternating narrative, theatre and music scenes. This version, true to the original story, is the work of Rafael García Castillo, Director of local theater groups that have carried out this work as volunteers at the request of the Musical Association. The music, a selection of pieces from different styles and different eras that illustrate the different stages of the journey, has been chosen by Alejandro Castañeda Martínez, Director of the Band of  Musical Association  “Maestro Eugenio Calderón  Also, the school theatre group "La Acena," directed by Professor of the same centre, Elena Fernández Moreno, represent this adaptation of the famous novel by Jules Verne accompanied by the band of Mazarrón.
