First Theatre Festival, Mazarrón


On 5 June the presentation of the First Theatre Festival took place that the institute "Antonio Hellín" Puerto de Mazarrón has scheduled for this June and will start on Thursday 14. The presentation was made by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, the Director of the school, Carlos Corvalan, and the organizers of this event theatre, Mari Carmen Marin and Elizabeth M. Ballesta.

The festival opens on Thursday June 14 with the play  “El pastor mentiroso” by a group of children from the CEIP "Miguel Delibes" school in Puerto de Mazarrón. The performance will take place at 9 pm where you can also enjoy the rest of plays that will be staged in the courtyard of the institute located at La Avenida Águila Imperial on the Cuatro Plumas urbanisation.

On Monday 18 June will be the turn of the theatre group “Atardecer”, when the Senior Centre of Puerto de Mazarrón perform the play “Cuando las mujeres hablan de los hombres”. On Tuesday 19 “Un marido que va y vuelve” an adaptation of Isabel Moreno, will be staged by the theatre group of the IES "Domingo Valdivieso" de Mazarrón.

On Wednesday 20 the theatre group “Alquimia”, belonging to the school "Siglo XXI” will perform the play titled "Circus." The festival will close on Thursday 21 when theatre group "La Marabunta" from IES "Antonio Hellín" will stage“La dama boba 2.0”, an adaptation of the popular classic writer Lope de Vega. Admission to all performances is free.

The Director of I.E.S. Antonio Hellin, Carlos Corvalan, commented that "this initiative born from the Department of Literature and Spanish Language is designed to extend our theatre culture among all citizens" and thanked the City Council, particularly the Mayor of Mazarrón " for his responsiveness, affection and warmth to launch this project which fills us all with pride."

The head of the department and festival organizer, Mari Carmen Marin, explained that "the idea emerged six years ago, when the theatre group created the crowds, but it is only now we decided to carry out this first festival ".

Another of the organizers of the festival and head of the department of extracurricular activities, Isabel M. Ballesta, wanted to "invite all citizens to enjoy this first competition as there are performances for all tastes and ages." In addition, Ballesta stressed that "some works, such as the adaptation of La dama boba, have that special touch that is to help educate students of our schools."

Finally, the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, said that "we love to support such initiatives and I know that this festival will not have any problem in being consolidated by the theatrical tradition that exists in the municipality of Mazarrón." The Mayor has also stressed that "it is important to carry out activities such as this festival as it also completes the schooling and education of our youth."
