Cañada de Gallego is ready to celebrate
their festivals in honour of San Antonio. The programme for this year begins on
Friday June 8 at 8 pm with a championship of paddle in the locality which also will host a
football tournament from 8.30. At 9 pm
the lights and fireworks festivals are opened by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés
Campillo, the Councillor of Celebration, Isidro Coy, and the Festival
Committee.
To avoid coinciding with the opening of the celebrations of La Atalaya, the proclamation of Canada de Gallego is delayed an hour. So, at 10 pm there will be the performance from the Children's Dance Group of Canada de Gallego and half hour later there will be a performance from "Aires de Mazarron." At 11pm ASPADEM president, Juan Zamora Morales "El Mones", makes the opening speech of this year to be followed by the election of the Queens and the Mister of Cañada de Gallego.
On Saturday June 9 starting at 8 pm will again be championship football and paddle. From 9.30pm the Asociación de Amas de Casa y Grupo de Teatro de Ramonete will stage the play in “El Velatorio de Vicente Vargas El Flipao” and at 10.30pm performances will be by groups from La Torrecilla, Zarzadilla de Totana and Morata. The evening will end with a party presented by young DJ Nicholas Lizarrán.
On Sunday 10 starts the day with a petanca tournament at 9 am and the finals of the championship football and paddle half an hour later. At 2 pm you can sample a giant paella, and at 5pm there will be entertainment with clowns and displays for children to be followed by a snack for all children. 7pm will be time for the traditional games sack race, tug of war, race charts among others.
In the evening from 10pm will see a performance from the singer Marisol Segura who has participated in the programme "a tu vera" of the 7 regional television Murcia (7RM). The music will continue to be featured during the evening as at 11pm Elda from the pop-rock group "Sinergia" performs.
On Monday 11 is rest day in order for the hamlet to gain renewed vigour in order to tackle the final stretch of their parties ! On Tuesday 12th from 10 pm, will be a performance from Enrique de León a magician known for his appearances on TV and 7RM Murcia, and other national television networks such as Cuatro o Telecinco. At 11pm, Murcia Salva Ortega performs, a singer who was a candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009. Music will close the night with a big party.
On 13th, the feast of the municipality will be held from 11.30am, followed with the Holy Mass in honour of San Antonio de Padua and culminating in the traditional procession through the streets of the town. The events of that day continue after 10 pm with performances by Fabian "El Pinilla" and the award presentations for the various competitions held during the holidays. A fireworks display at midnight will end the festivities this year at Canada de Gallego.
