Jumilla 3 Mazarron 1
After the brilliant win against the league leaders last week, Mazarron could not repeat their success and eventually lost 3 – 1 to a Jumilla team who, in all honesty, were not really much better
Without key players Alfonso, Jose Da and Diego junior, there were several changes but for the first 15 minutes Mazarron matched Jumilla and Edin missed a golden chance when put clean through after good work by Guillermo and Jose. However, in the 16th minute Mazarron gave the ball away in midfield and when a cross came in from the right, poor defending left an unmarked forward with the easy task of opening the scoring for Jumilla.
For the rest of the first half Ruben cemented his eventual position as Man of the Match by making several good saves, usually from shots hit from distance and Mazarron were fortunate to reach the break only one goal down
At half time Edin was substituted without any immediate improvement in the attacking half, and Ruben had to continue to make good saves. Unfortunately, one of these saves led to a corner from which the ball was put into the net to double Jumilla’s lead.
In the 63rd minute, the referee gave an indirect free kick to Mazarron just inside the penalty area when it was difficult to know why a penalty was not awarded. However, Pollo rolled the ball sideways to Guillermo who curled the ball over the wall and keeper into the net to reduce the arrears.
This gave Mazarron some hope of a result but, despite been able to exert more pressure, they were unable to add to their tally and, with 5 minutes left yet another good save from Ruben was followed up by a Jumilla striker who made the score 3-1 with the Mazarron defence standing still.
Without Jose Da and Diego junior there were few attacking opportunities but the main problem seemed to be the inability of either full back to mark their wingers and get in convincing tackles leaving Mazarron vulnerable to crosses from both flanks.
