FEBRUARY 2ND - WORLD WETLANDS DAY EVENT

Every February 2 is celebrated around the world ‘Día Mundial de los Humedales’ (World Wetlands Day). commemorating the date chosen for the ‘Convención sobre los Humedales’  in 1971 . The theme chosen for this year  is " Wetlands and Agriculture : Together for Growth " , with the aim of raising awareness of the vital role wetlands plays in agricultural support and to publicize the great biodiversity of these ecosystems.

So this Sunday, 2 February , the Directorate General Environment of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia , through ' Grupo Generala' , has organized a special day in the wetlands of the Lagunas de las Moreras to celebrate ‘Día Mundial de los Humedales’  with the aim of publicizing the activities of the project ‘LIFE09 NAT/ES/000516 Conservación de la Malvasía Cabeciblanca en la Región de Murcia’.

The event has the support of the Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón. Councillor of the area, David Fernandez , explained that "we also have the support of Asociación ‘ALCEDO’, el Centro de Buceo del Sureste ‘Bachisub’ and la asociación ‘Amigos de la Naturaleza’ , helping the conservation of the White-Headed Duck , a water bird that is threatened worldwide and whose only European population is in Spain . "

The day will start at the Estación Depuradora de Aguas Residuales (E.D.A.R.) in Mazarrón at 10:15 am to meet and greet participants . At 10:30 am there will be an introductory talk on wetlands and the actions of the ' Project LIFE Conservation of White-headed Duck ' at 11:30 am. To end the activity, distribution of gifts will be presented among the attendees.
