The Department of Environment, in collaboration with the environmental association "Alcedo", has organized a trip to the town of Tabernas (Almería) to visit the facilities of its Centra Solar, the largest centre of research and testing in Europe dedicated to the technologies solar concentration. The trip is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 and its price is 10 euros per person. Bus departure is scheduled for 8.00am from Puerto de Mazarrón, but a quarter of an hour later the bus will pass Mazarron and Camposol at 8.30am.
In addition to bus transportation and a visit to the Centra Solar, the trip includes visits to other interesting places, some of them related to the environment. Thus, participants are expected to visit the town of Sorbas, famous for its pottery and its houses hanging over the ravine of Alfa reminiscent of hanging houses of Cuenca. Another scheduled visit is to the Wool Museum, where ethnographic and ethnological aspects come together with the so-called industrial archeology.
It will also be of great interest to visit the eco-village of Molinos del Rio Aguas within the natural setting of Karst in Yesos de Sorbas. This is an example of diversity both in the people living there and in the nature. The people live without mains electricity or water – their water comes from the river, the land gives food and energy is provided by the sun. A walk along the headwaters of the Rio Aguas, to enjoy crystal clear waters and mysterious caves, will put an end to the visit to the town of Almeria, heading back to Mazarrón at 7pm. Participants can bring their own food, or eat a men at a restaurant in the area for 10 euros. In addition, you should bring water, sunscreen and appropriate footwear.
The Councillor for the Environment, David Fernandez, explained that "this is an activity in which we have combined entertainment with an interest in the environment travelling to a very beautiful but unknown area to many people, and is therefore a good opportunity to enjoy a different day." The Mayor thanked the collaboration of Alcedo whose President, Consuelo Murcia, indicated that "for more information you can send an email to asociacionalcedo@gmail.com or call 656 443 465", encouraging participation "to foreign residents, as a guide will be there translating into English what we see on the visits."
