This Saturday April 27th marks the twenty-fourth
edition of the National Triathlon "Villa de Fuente Alamo" starting as
usual at 5pm from Rihuete beach in Puerto de Mazarrón. The
test was presented this morning by the Mayor of Fuente Álamo, María Antonia
Conesa, the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, Councillor for Sports of Fuente Álamo, Juan Fulgencio Lopez and the
General Coordinator of the sporting event, Ginés Bermudez .
750 athletes will gather to compete another year in this test "bringing together the best athletes in this area of our country," stated Maria Antonia Conesa, including Marina Damlaincourt, ranked 24th in the 2012 Olympic Games and international triathlete Jesus Gomar, who was 13th in Triathlon World Cup - Banyoles and winner of the event in Fuente Alamo last year.
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, stressed that "it is an honour to be participants in this test, it is gratifying for us to promote a sport that pushes the boundaries of our municipality and overall ties with our neighbours of Fuente Alamo ". In this sense, the Mayor thanked the consistory and Department of Sports for the "technical and logistical support you have given us for the celebration of the Autonomous Communities Triathlon last September and other sporting events."
For the smooth conduct of the test there are 200 volunteers and for the first time in the history of Triathlon, Paralympic athletes will compete in May. The test, controlled by Triathlon Judges Committee of the Region of Murcia, has a distance of 750 metres swimming off Rihuete beach, 20 kilometres of cycling between the two municipalities and 5 miles of running in Fuente Alamo. The awards will be presented from 11pm in the Paseo de Ronda de Poniente in Fuente Álamo and Andres Valera, the Mayor Sports will be in attendance, , representing Mazarrón.
