On Saturday May 7, Mazarrón will host the Geolodía in the
Region of Murcia, a national activity taking place across the country on the
same date. This is a free initiative, which requires no registration, and is
organized by GEaland and the City of Mazarrón.
It is expected that several hundred people will be
participating in a route that will start by the Sandstone Erosions in Bolnuevo
at 9am and will travel a total of 6.5 kilometers with 8 stops where geologists
will have different workshops and will
explain the peculiarities of the geological landscape composition that will be
visited. "This route is known by many, but on May 7 we're going to do it
with geological eyes and be surprised to society" so stressed Nacho
Sierra, responsible for GEaland
The route will involve families being able to participate in
various educational activities, some of
them focused in the analysis of small fossils, for facilitating various
instruments as small magnifying glasses, as indicated by Ainara Aberasturi, a
member of GEaland. The activity has an educational purpose and in order to
maintain a good quality of the event, organizers are allowing no more than 25
groups of visitors to the explanatory workshops.
The initiative as indicated by Councilman of Heritage, Pedro
Martinez, seeks to raise awareness of the rich natural and paleontological
heritage within the municipality and spread it among locals and visitors with
the intention to value and preserve the wealth that entails.
The route is supported by the Geological Society of Spain,
the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) and the
Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME). In addition, the Cidaris
Foundation also collaborates
