7 MAY - GEOLOGICAL WALKING ROUTE
On Saturday May 7, Mazarrón will host the Geolodía in the
Region of Murcia, a national activity taking place across the country on the
same date. This is a free initiative, which requires no registration, and is
organized by GEaland and the City of Mazarrón.
It is expected that several hundred people will be
participating in a route that will start by the Sandstone Erosions in Bolnuevo
at 9am and will travel a total of 6.5 kilometers with 8 stops where geologists
will have different workshops and will
explain the peculiarities of the geological landscape composition that will be
visited. "This route is known by many, but on May 7 we're going to do it
with geological eyes and be surprised to society" so stressed Nacho
Sierra, responsible for GEaland
The route will involve families being able to participate in
various educational activities, some of
them focused in the analysis of small fossils, for facilitating various
instruments as small magnifying glasses, as indicated by Ainara Aberasturi, a
member of GEaland. The activity has an educational purpose and in order to
maintain a good quality of the event, organizers are allowing no more than 25
groups of visitors to the explanatory workshops.
The initiative as indicated by Councilman of Heritage, Pedro
Martinez, seeks to raise awareness of the rich natural and paleontological
heritage within the municipality and spread it among locals and visitors with
the intention to value and preserve the wealth that entails.
The route is supported by the Geological Society of Spain,
the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) and the
Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME). In addition, the Cidaris

MAZARRÓN FC - 24TH APRIL GAME
Sunday 24th is a massive day for both local football
teams, Mazarron FC and CD Bala Azul who meet at the Estadio Municipal in
Mazarron, kick off 6.00 pm.
Mazarron are looking to continue their push for promotion
to the Trecera Diviasion via the end of season play-offs while their neighbours
from Puerto de Mazarron are desperate for points to steer clear of the
relegation position they currently occupy.
Mazarron have reduced admission prices to just €3 for the
game in the hope of attracting a huge crowd and generating a fantastic
atmosphere. If you have not been to the Estadio Municpal there is plenty of
seating for everyone with bar and canteen facilities.
Before the game Los Amigos de Mazarron FC, the ex-pat
supporters' organisation, will present a cheque for €4200, the proceeds of its
recent Gala Week activities, to Jose Rodriguez the President of Mazarron
Football Club.
The weather forecast for Sunday evening is good so why
not come along and savour the atmosphere of a local football "derby"
game?

SUPERMOTO RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS- 30 APRIL AND 1 MAY
15 year old Loris
Ford-Dunn has had a busy winter testing his new ktm Supermotoland.com SMR 450cc
race bike as he hops up from the youth Supermoto championships of Spain and
into the highly competitive adult classes for 2016. But Loris is no stranger to
Supermoto racing where racers battle on circuits made of asphalt, with off road
jump sections thrown in to make some of the most spectacular and close racing
seen in Spain.
Last year Loris finished
in 4th place in the Spanish Youth championships for 85cc machines in his first
year of racing. He knows that he is now stepping up to the top class, against
many racers that have much more experience than himself but he is relishing the
opportunity to learn from the best.
This year will
essentially be a learning year as he gets used to the more powerful bike and
the tougher competition. With Loris

that he needs to get himself up to speed.
His season starts in
Alicante on Saturday 30th April at the Albaida circuit near Alcoy, with the
first round of the Spanish championships on one of the toughest supermoto

Sunday 1st May the world's best Supermoto racers will be racing at the same
circuit for the 2nd round of the world championship Grand Prixs, so some incredible racing will be on show

THEATRE PLAY IN MAZARRÓN 23 MAY
Mazarrón joins the commemoration of the fourth centenary of
the death of Cervantes with the organization of a play on Saturday April 23 in
the hall of the CIME and performed by the company "Tramoya" Theatre,
whose members presented the event with the Councillor of Culture of the City of
Mazarrón, Pedro Martinez.
The work, suitable for all audiences, will be free
admission, on a first arrival basis, and will have two performances: at 6pm and
8pm. Pedro Martinez has encouraged residents of Mazarron and visitors to the
town that weekend to come to Avda Constitución of Mazarrón to witness a
spectacle that tells the most striking episodes of the masterpiece of Spanish
literature.
Antonio Ataz, Director of the work and Interpreter of the
character of Don Quixote, congratulated the City of Mazarrón for dedicating a
space to the anniversary of Cervantes.

Programme of events at Mazarrón libraries
The Department of Libraries of the City of
Mazarrón has scheduled for this April a broad programe that includes fifteen
events, one particular one which stands out is a novelty Creative Writing
Workshop for Adults which has the support of Jerónimo García Jorquera .
The workshop will take place on 18, 21, 25
and 28 April. It is an activity in addition to the Photo Contest "We like
to Read", now in its third edition and which is aimed at students in
secondary schools in the Municipality. This contest will award the three best
shots with 300, 200 and 100 euros.
Registration for the Creative Writing
Workshop can be done in the libraries of Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón until
14 April and work for the Photo Contest can be delivered, also in both libraries,
until 26 April. The awards ceremony will be on April 29 at 20:00 pm in the
Cultural Centre.
The programme was been presented by
Councillor of Library, Patricio Sanchez and the head of the Municipal Archives,
Magdalena Campillo. The start of events is scheduled for April 14 with the
opening of the exhibition "Curious Books and Curiosities Neglected".
It will be at 6pm in Puerto de Mazarrón
and at 7pm in Mazarrón. The exhibition will remain open until 20 May.
The week in which the World Book Day is commemorated
is this year made more special by the celebration of the fourth centenary of
the death of Cervantes. On Tuesday 19 April, Professor at the University of
Murcia, Keith Gregor, will give a lecture entitled "Shakespeare
Today". It will be at the Cultural Centre from 8pm. On Friday 22, Javier
Hervas presents his book “El fantasma de
tu abrazo” ("The Phantom of your
embrace.") It will be at 8.30pm in the Auditorium of the Cultural Centre.
In recognition of World Book Day, the
Department of Culture have created a book exchange programmee. In both
libraries a space has been allocated for users to deposit the books they no
longer want and choose others which have been deposited by others. This is an
activity to promote reading, which seeks the involvement of citizens.
Furthermore, on Saturday April 23 at the headquarters of the Antigua
Universidad Popular, the theatre group "Tramoya" will perform the
play “Don Quijote y el Genio de
Cervantes”. Admission is free and will be staged twice – at 6pm and again at
8pm.
On Tuesday April 26, at 8.30pmat the
Cultural Centre will be held the meeting with the author Blue Jeans. On
Wednesday April 27, Ricardo Esvay, professor at the University of Murcia,
presents the conference "Cervantes y el mar". It will be at 8pm in
the auditorium of the Cultural Centre.
Programming libraries end with craft
workshops, performances, dramatic readings and activity "Teatro de
Carmen".
XXI edition of the Ruta Mototurística por la Vida

More than 3,500 bikers have already
registered to participate in the XXI edition of the Ruta Mototurística por la Vida organized by
the national association "Todos contra la droga" and the
collaboration of the City of Mazarrón with other councils and government
agencies. This event, which takes place on Sunday April 17, was presented by
Casiano Navarro, President of the host Association and the Councillor for
Sports, Patricio Sanchez. The bikers will visit different Municipalities in the
region to reach Mazarrón, through the main avenues and making a brief stop in
Bolnuevo before continuing to Puerto de Mazarrón.
The finish is at the end of Paseo Rihuete
by the Petanque club. The Department of Celebration has decided to involve exhibitions
and music concerts within this important event. There will be a tribute to the
Mojinos Escozíos by a local group, as confirmed by the Councillor for Sports,
Patricio Sanchez, who has said that this is another event that will attract a
large audience in a Spring weekend, with the consequent benefit to local
businesses and the hospitality sector.

CHARITY CONCERT - MAZARRÓN - 16 APRIL
La Asociación
Musical Maestro Eugenio Calderón have scheduled for this Saturday 16 April (19:30 pm) a
concert with the Asociación de Amigos de
la Cultura de Chirivel (Almería).
The event will take place at the
Cultural Centre of Mazarrón
Donations collected during the concert will be contributed
to the "Smile for Paula" initiative. The charitable cause of this
event was unanimously approved during the last meeting of members.
In the
concert hall there will be a ballot box to collect donations from those
attending. Proceeds will help towards the cost of an operation for Paula
Valdivia, a young Mazarron girl affected by the rare disease, Moebius syndrome.
SWIMMING EVENT - MAZARRÓN - 17 APRIL
About 50 swimmers will reach the beach in Puerto de Mazarrón
after travelling 8km from La Azohía. The test, organized by the Masters
Swimming Club Murcia will take place on Sunday April 17 from 9am
Mazarrón is the first of five regional events that completes
a circuit that began last year and had the participation of 150 swimmers in
total. The expectation is to double this year the number of participants,
reaching 300 swimmers, with an average of 50 swimmers per event. Registration
