MINING IN MAZARRÓN - PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

The photographic exhibition "Mazarrón - Mining Heritage" is open until March 28 at the Faculty of Business Science at the Polytechnic University in Cartagena

The inauguration was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Francisco Martinez, the Director General of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, Prof. and Dr. in Geological Sciences, José Ignacio Manteca, the author of the exhibition, Juan Francisco Belmar, and the Mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jimenez

The Mayor, Alicia Jiménez, welcomed the holding of this event, "as it helps to raise awareness of the local heritage and helps to spread it." The Mayor stressed that "the work done by the artist goes beyond the merely descriptive aspect, and his work has been shown to many schools and, thanks to him, succeeding generations of Mazarrón have familiarised themselves with its history." She congratulated the photographer, Juan Francisco Belmar, who also is the author of the Semana Santa poster for Mazarrón

For its part, the General Director of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, congratulated everyone for the great effort of putting an initiative of this kind in place. Comas also referred to the "photographer's eye," the ability and sensitivity of the artist to capture the viewer's attention on an issue of particular importance as it is the mining heritage.

Photographer, Juan Francisco Belmar, said the ultimate goal of the exhibition in its original design was to introduce the mining heritage among those in Mazarrón, an initiative that was also extended to the schools in the Municipality. He also expressed his gratitude to all the authorities who have made this exhibition possible. He thanked the Director of the Universidad Popular, José María López Ballesta, who was one of the first promoters of the project, as well as the Department of Culture in Mazarrón for their involvement and support and the Polytechnic University and the Directorate General for Cultural Property. Belmar also referred to Professor Jose Ignacio Manteca, Curator of the exhibition for helping and giving his impetus. Belmar also thanked the Mazarróneros who travelled to Cartagena to support this event.


"Mazarrón - Mining Heritage" can be found in the rooms of the building of Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena , and will be on display until March 28 during opening hours . On weekends it is possible to visit the exhibition, by prior arrangement. The exhibition has been supported UPCT, la Universidad de Popular of Mazarrón, the Department of Culture and the City of Mazarrón.
