The organizers of the Vuelta a Murcia -
Trofeo Alfonso Guzman, have released final details of the XXXV
edition of this now classic test in the international cycling scene.
16 teams have confirmed their presence at the event, to be held in
Mazarrón on Saturday 14 February. Movistar, Astana, Katusha, Trek
Factory and Cofidis are some of the teams that have confirmed their
attendance. A total of 147 cyclists will participate in the 198 km
race, among them names like Luis León, Rubén Fernández and Mark
Cavendish.
The starting line will be located on
the Avenida de la Constitución de Mazarrón. The approximate time
scheduled for cyclists will start around 10:30am, heading to Avenida
Tierno Galván in Puerto de Mazarrón. Then, cyclists will head for
Isla Plana and the Alto del Cedacero, with climbs of up to 10
percent. The test will then go North in the direction of Murcia, West
to Alhama and climbing up the Sierra Espuña, dropping down past
Aledo and in to Totana. The race will finish on the climb to the
castle of Lorca.
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco
García, stresses the importance of holding this event in Mazarrón
and points out the link the town has always had with this cycling
race. The competition serves to protect the name of the Municipality
both Nationally and Internationally.
