The campaign aimed at locals and visitors begins Friday in
Puerto de Mazarrón. For two days, various activities and workshops serve to
show the public the role of artisanal fisheries and marine reserves of
commercial interest in the conservation of marine biodiversity and resources
offered. The objective is to inform responsible consumers who value artisanal
produce and their ecosystems.
It is an initiative of the Asociación Columbares, financed
by the European Fisheries Fund and the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry of
Agriculture, Food and Environment. Among its goals is to diversify the fishing
economy through the promotion of activities such as fishing, tourism and
cooperation between scientists and the fishing industry.
The campaign is travelling and after passing through
Mazarrón, it will visit other places on the Murcia and Almeria coastline. The
programme of activities in our Town will be held on 8 and 9 August in the Plaza
de Abastos, Paseo de Rihuete in Puerto de Mazarrón, and the restaurants El Puerto and Galayos
where workshops will take place on "Fisherman´s Recipes”. For workshops
there is a maximum of 25 participants. Entries must be made by email to the

The activities will end on Saturday night with the
documentary , “Mar de Fons” from Bruno López
Florencia Luna, a short story of a sailor saga of Badalona, "la Costa" for generations dedicated to the craft of
artisanal fisheries . Later there will be a panel discussion.
This campaign collaborates Mazarrón Town Council and the
University of Murcia. The Mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco García, thanked
Columbares for including Mazarrón in this travelling activity and showing its
commitment to the defense of artisanal fisheries due to quality productivity
and respect offered to the marine environment. Carmen Molina, Columbares
Representative, thanked Mazarrón Town Council
for their willingness in organizing this conference.

Friday 8 August
- The Fish. With head, thanks. Theatrical action in the
Plaza de Abastos of Puerto de Mazarrón at 12:00.
- Fish with art. Theatre of objects on artisanal fish and
its legacy as a curator of the sea. Paseo del Rihuete from 19:30.
- Marine reserves of commercial interest. Photographic Exhibition of marine reserves Cabo de
Palos-Islas Hormigas and Cabo de Gata-Nijar. In the Plaza de Abastos and Paseo
del Rihuete
Saturday 9 August
- Fisherman Recipes. Workshops and recipe tasting. In
restaurants El Puerto (from 10:30 to 11:30) and Los Galayos (From 19:30 to
21:30).
- Screening of the documentary "Mar de Fons" by Bruno
Lopez and Florencia Luna on "Los Costa" a saga dedicated to artisanal
fishing and subsequent debate. From 22 hours.
