MAZARRÓN CARNIVAL - 28 FEBRUARY TO 2 MARCH

The hall of the Cultural Centre of Mazarrón was the venue for the presentation of the programme of Festivities of Carnival 2014 poster illustrating the festivities this year , the work of artist Tomas Raja of Mazarron . The presentation was given by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, Councillor of Celebration , Isidro Coy,  Joseph Balthasar, and the author of the work itself. During the meeting , they announced the new products showcased this year and the times of the various activities planned for the Carnival.

Isidro Coy explained that "this year the festivities will begin on Friday, February 28th at 8 pm with a parade through various streets of Mazarrón by the Brazilian group ' Pandeiro ' , which ends in the sports hall ' La Aceña ' where starting at 9pm we will be choosing Musas and Musos in both children and seniors categories . " The gala will open with the proclamation by the Queen of the Festival 2013 , Maite Martínez , and will feature various performances and the award ceremony ' Carnavalero del Año´ is announced that day. The Mayor encouraged citizens to attend the gala in fancy dress  as there will " be two prizes of 100€ for the most original costume and the best group" .

On Saturday March 1 the Children's Parade will feature the participation of 7 groups and some 800 people including children , teachers and parents . The parade will start from the former barracks of the Civil Guard in Mazarrón at 5 pm and will cover the entire Avda Constitucion, to the explanada de Protección Civil. Once completed, there will be a children's party with entertainment group ' AdelantaT ' in the mobile disco that will be installed in the Plaza del Convento, where the presentation will also take place for the top 3 groups in the parade .

" This children's party , which will distribute juice among participants, is one of the novelties of this year," said Isidro Coy , adding that " starting at 11 pm on Saturday, the mobile disco will be busy. The festivities end on Sunday February 2 with the General Parade by the participation of 33 groups ( 14 local and 19 foreign ) and about 900 people and will leave at 4 pm also from the former barracks of the Civil Guard travelling along Avda Constitucion. At the end, the mobile disco will again host the awards to the best clubs both local and visitors .

Of the poster , the artist Tomas Raja explained that " with this painting I wanted to represent the traditional carnival, which many people my age are familiar with of the image of the Ayuntamiento and the Casa Consistoriales ." The painter thanked everyone" in relying on me to do this picture" and praised "the City of Mazarrón for their support in this way, and through exhibitions and various events for Mazarron artists."
