The hall of the Cultural Centre will host the first edition
of the festival ' Mazarrón en corto' , to be held on 27 and 28 February from
21:30. 18 short films and a chat with actor Saturnino Garcia make this
festival. The Councillor for Culture explained that " the entrance to the
films will be free until all seats are filled and the event features a prize
for the best work with a prize of 100€. This is an initiative by the City of
Mazarrón and ' CortoEspaña ' which aims to bring the format to our Town ,
" said the Mayor, Gines Campillo.
During screenings, the 18 short films will vary between
themes, from drama to comedy and through animation or more dynamic and
innovative work. The duration of the films will also be diverse, combining
stories of some plot development with shorter stories of just a few minutes. In
addition , the public will determine the winner of the festival through a
ballot. This initiative aims to involve the audience beyond mere viewing and
engage them in an active and critical assessment seen on screen .
Celeste Soria also commented that "before the opening
we will have the presence of Saturnino Garcia, GOYA award for 'Best Newcomer '
in 1994 , who will offer us a brief chat and a meeting. Thus , anyone who wishes
may take a picture holding a real ' Goya ' in his hands . " The event will
take place on Thursday 27th at 8pm, also in the hall of the Cultural
Centre of Mazarrón , located at Calle Entierro de La Sardina 17 in the neighborhood of the La Aceña
.
The festival belongs to the circuit ' CortoEspaña ' , an
initiative of the Short Film Network to promote the short format in 2014 which
will feature more than 100 festivals in various Spanish locations throughout
the year. In addition, the winning film will be screened in the festival along
with those who have won in other festivals in a year-end gala in Madrid, where
you can see all the best works of 2014.
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo , said that " in
the intense promotion of culture that we are carryin out, we have to include cinema as another cultural
and leisure activity”. The Mayor encouraged all citizens to " attend the
film festival as it will be the first of many that we celebrate as many people
in the town , myself included, are lovers of this art that deserves its place within the flowering cultural and social life we are living in Mazarron.
