Despite fielding what on paper looked a stronger side, Mazarrón consolidated their position at the foot of the table with a 3 – 0 defeat at home to Beniel.
After a fairly quiet first 20 minutes, with neither side doing an awful lot, things changed when a Mazarrón throw on the half way line was for some reason or other handled by Rollon. A quickly taken free kick was put into the Mazarrón area and onwards into the net to give the visitors the lead.
Shortly after this Jose and Alfonso swapped positions but there was no noticeable difference with Beniel starting to get well on top. Despite this however, Mazarrón could have equalized twice before half time. First a shot was deflected to the keeper and then Pepe ran on to a through ball and hammered his shot straight at the keeper who punched it away. A yard either side and the whole game could have changed.
In the 56th minute Beniel doubled their lead when a free kick was headed into the net.
Shortly afterwards, following a succession of dives from the Beniel striker, Diego received his fifth yellow card of the season which will see him miss the next game. Beniel scored again to make it 3-0 and although Mazarrón had several chances to cut the deficit, nothing came from them. The closest Mazarrón came was a 40 yard shot from Diego jnr which only just went over the bar with the keeper well beaten.
Time is running out for Mazarrón who are 10 points short of safety. Once again six regular players were missing through injury, suspension or unavailability and four members of the successful juvenile team had to be included in the starting line-up.
Team: Ruben, Jose “Pollo”, Diego, Alex (Habib), Guillermo, Pepe (Diego jnr), Rollon (jnr) (Chema), Alfonso, Chico, Pescau (Ahmed), Matt Clarke
Man of the Match: Diego Snr.
