Following the mid season break hopes were high for Mazarrón but nothing changed, not even the system, where once again a lone striker was deployed and this “honour” again fell to Edin.
Very little happened in the first 10 minutes but then Diego was outpaced by the opponents centre forward who managed to toe poke the ball towards goal and Peru allowed it to creep under his body into the net to give Ceuti the lead.
8 minutes later Peru called for a ball, but then changed his mind leaving Diego no option but to head the ball out for a corner. The flag kick was flicked on to the visitor’s unmarked centre half who easily headed home.
Still without four key players through suspension, Mazarrón came back into the game and had two opportunities to reduce the arrears. Firstly, a Poyatos free kick was headed goalwards by Diego but was easily saved and secondly, from a Chico corner, the ball was hammered in by Diego jr. but this was cleared off the line.
Shortly after the start of the second half Poyatos was injured and replaced by Alex who was making a welcome first appearance of the season after a lengthy injury. Alex, playing in a midfield role, seemed to inspire the team and Mazarrón had several chances, including a spell of three successive corners.
In the 83rd minute a strong run down the left from Pescau ended with an excellent cross from which substitute Habibe scored with a glancing header. Despite more pressure in the closing minutes, Mazarrón were unable to score and lost further ground at the bottom of the league table.
