Insurance Documents Warning!

"A word of warning!!!
A friend of mine was out in her car yesterday evening. She had an appointment at a car dealers in Mazarron town.
As she pulled up outside the garage uniformed policemen approached her and asked to see her documents. Fortunately she had all her paperwork with her and the policemen took them to their car and checked them using their computer database.
When they came back to my friend they said that their computer showed that her car has not been insured for the last 3 years and promptly find her 1500 euros and called a pick up truck to take her car to the police pound.
My friend called her insurance company to find out what had gone wrong as she had her insurance certificate and the bank receipt showing she had paid but the police still said she was uninsured.
Her insurance company then realised that they had got one letter in her registration plate wrong on the certificate but told my friend it was her fault for not having checked her insurance certificate when she got it.
My poor friend is now trying to get her car back, with all the costs that that will involve, and get her fine quashed.
Do please check all your documents very carefully so that you don't suffer as my friend is now, through no fault of her own.
Incidentally my friend is English but is fluent in Spanish to such a degree that she represents people in Spanish courts."

Update on my friends nightmare because her insurance company let her down.
Bear in mind this lady is English but fluent in Spanish. How would your average Ex-Pat Brit have fared.
DO CHECK THOSE DOCUMENTS.

"Got car out of the police pound this morning. 90€ tow and storage charge, 2 days out of work driving between trafico and police etc. 5 trips to the police culminating in show down with the Chief Sergeant this morning. I gave him a piece of my mind and 5 of them escorted me out to my car with an apology. One of my best speeches".
