Route 2: Rincón del Agua-Pozo de la Nieve
Departure: 8’00 from the
Tourist Office. 8’30
from la Casa Cristo.
This tour of the eastern end of the Sierra de los Alamos reveal points
of great interest yet that get passed quite unnoticed, even by Moratalleras,
despite being known for the "Fuente del Canico." We begin the walk
from the place of "Los Asares" following the route of the old medieval
water line and several surviving aqueducts, some as troughs and others perched
on cliffs and hung quite high above the ground, showing the daring and
surprising capacity built 500 years ago, especially when the base material was
stone. Also we will be walking next to an area of great botanical value that
has the best population of Pteridium aquilinum bracken in the Region of Murcia, this fern is very common worldwide, but needs moist soil, the Southeast is
not an area typical for distribution. Following the service road, we reach the
heart of Rincon del Agua, where we find the Fuente del Umbria, a collection
point of the "Agua del Canico ", the first public source of
Moratalla. We then climb to the Pozo de la Nieve, perhaps the only locality
where we can find an activity that was in operation until recently.
Lunch at “La Pastora” at Casa Cristo.
