THEATRE PROGRAMME - 12 - 26 JUNE

The Secondary School "Antonio Hellin" in Puerto de Mazarrón has launched, starting next Wednesday, June 12th, the second edition of its theatre festival. A cultural event that began with great success last year and with the collaboration and support of the City of Mazarrón. The programme was presented on 5 June by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, the Director of that school, Carlos Corvalan, and the organizers of this theatrical event, Mari Carmen Marin and Elizabeth M. Ballesta.

As Marin and Ballesta explained, "This year we have grown from last year, as more works will be interpreted and involve more schools and theatre groups than last year." The performances, a total of 10, can be enjoyed from 9.30pm in the central courtyard of the school and are free, "they will begin on Wednesday, June 12 and run until Wednesday 26, and include works for all ages and all audiences. "

For his part, the Director of the Institute "Antonio Hellin" expressed "gratitude to the City of Mazarrón and the central departments who have superbly co-ordinated to launch the second edition." The C.E.I.P. "Miguel Delibes" will open this year's edition on Wednesday, 12 with the play “Los cuentos de la Luna”.

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, stressed that "Mazarron is experiencing a flourishing of culture and this festival of theatre-art form that has always had a great tradition in the city-is a good example of that." The Mayor, invited citizens "to share in this cultural re-emergence which students are actively participating in from institutes and schools with different cultural activities".
 

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION UNTIL 8 JUNE



May 18th saw the opening at the Town Hall of Mazarrón a collection of photographic exhibition of photographers "F20" entitled "Reflejos" which will be displayed in the exhibition space until Saturday June 8. The opening, was conducted by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, and the Councillor for Culture, Maria Celeste Soria, and had the presence of the exhibitors.

These are Maria Dolores Olivo, Angel Cánovas, José María González, Pedro Durán, José Ortuño, Pepi Blazquez, Fresco Ramos, Alesia Pylypchuk, Fernando Arauzo, Jose Sanchez, Paco Lopez, Bernardo Martinez, Pascual Mendez, David Garcia, Norberto Vivancos, Luis Marino, José Manuel Ureña and Miguel Angel Urena. This exhibition is the first exhibition of this association and their 18 members have made images captured in reflections, hence its name.

Photographic Association of Mazarrón "F20" was born last summer in order to bring together all photography lovers. The association aims to promote, encourage and conduct cultural and recreational activities related to photography and images in the city, in all its variations. To achieve these purposes, "F20" has organized various activities, such as courses, workshops, lectures, photographic outputs, etc..

The exhibition will run from Monday to Saturday from 10-2 pm and on Thursday and Friday from 5-8pm. The exhibition will remain open every Saturday morning, but will be closed Wednesday morning on May 22. Also, on Saturday June 1 the building will be specifically open in the evening for this exhibition schedule between 5-8pm.

ATALAYA FIESTA STARTS 31 MAY



On Friday May 31 the Village of Atalaya starts its celebrations in honour of Corpus Christi to be held throughout the weekend. The programming was presented by Isidro Coy, Celebrations Councillor and Flora Alarcon, Representative of the Cultural Association "La Atalaya" and Headman of the hamlet. Coy  thanked "the great effort that the residents of La Atalaya have made to designing a comprehensive programme, which will hopefully be enjoyed by all citizens of Mazarrón".

Alarcon explained the acts that make up the festive unveiling programme to begin this Friday, May 31 at 21:30 pm with the opening of the festivities by Paquita Cañavate. Next,  the Kings and Queens of the Parties will be chosen followed by a performance by Sevillanas group "San Juan" of Morata. The night will also feature Ricky "El Andaluz Chico".

On Saturday June 1 activities also begin at 21:30 pm with a performance of the ballet "Peña El Salitre". Laughter and art are assured on Saturday night with performances by Frank Cano, who will stage his show "Ella es El" and the Mazarrón group"Los Luisos". Besides traditional musical bingo there will be karaoke expected to run until the arrival of the light of dawn.

On Sunday June 2nd there will be a cycle ride from 09:30 am and at 12 noon will be  traditional “rociera” Mass, performed with great skill and new repertoire, from "Aires de Mazarrón ". The Mass will be followed by a snack provided by the bar "La Fundicion" and a large paella from Neighbourhood Association "Puntas de Calnegre". In the afternoon, games and contests take place including the sweet dessert contest. At night, there will be a musical performance, the traditional piñata with dozens of gifts and of course, delicious fritters.
