BUGLES & DRUM PARADE - 7 MARCH

The promenade of Puerto de Mazarrón house on Saturday March 7 the First National Professional March Contest with the participation of six bands of bugles and drums. The event was announced at a press conference by the Councillor for Culture, Ginés Campillo and Musical Director of the Band of Bugles and Drums of Mazarrón, Mario Gallego.

At 4pm a parade is scheduled to run along the promenade and at 5pm the contest takes place in the vicinity of the Plaza de la Sal. Participating bands are Virgen de los Dolores of Bullas, Cruz de Espejos of Archena, Virgen de los Dolores of Cehegín, Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Era Alta in Murcia, Sangre de Cristo of Elche and la Banda de Cornetas y Tambores of  Mazarrón.

This event serves to debut the big style changes that were started just over 8 months ago by the Mazarrón band. As well as the costume changes, the band of Bugles and Drums musical style has gone from military to Sevillano. Changes that have been made possible thanks to municipal aid and private companies, as confirmed by the Musical Director, Mario Gallego.


For the Councillor for Culture, Ginés Campillo, it is an initiative that values ​​the activity of these bands, that in recent times have become increasingly important.

CHATTERS INVITE YOU TO MEET VICE CONSUL LLOYD MILEN

Living in Spain can be somewhat confusing, it is difficult enough when you speak the language, but even more so if you don’t.  

Chatters invite you to Roda Centro Civico on Wednesday March 18th at 11am, to come along and find out more about what you can do to help yourselves.  Vice Consul, Lloyd Milen has agreed to come along and talk to us about LIVING IN SPAIN, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have, but please keep them brief and to the point.  No need to book, all are welcome, so pop along a little earlier, have a coffee, and grab a seat.

He will also raise the point on how difficult it is for charities to keep going if they don’t have the volunteers.  

We are all desperate for help, and HAH need carers. There are no set hours and always to suit you, and maybe just 2 hours, when you have time, to help someone who is struggling to say, get up or have a shower, or do some shopping.

PROGRAMMING OF SPRING EVENTS IN MUNICIPAL LIBRARY OF MAZARRÓN

The Municipal Library announces its new programming this Spring. Until May many activities seek the participation of different sectors of the Municipality in order to involve them in Culture, as announced by its Director, Magdalena Campillo, at a press conference accompanied by the Mayor Ginés Campillo .

The presence of the writer Fernando Sanchez Dragó will be in attendance at one of the meetings on 21 April. It is precisely in that month when the largest number of activities take place to coincide with the celebration of World Book Day. This year is also the fourth centenary of the second part of El Quijote and to commemorate, the Municipal Library has scheduled several events - highlights include dramatic readings by the IES Domingo Valdivieso and Club de Lectura de la Biblioteca of Puerto de Mazarrón on the 23 and 29 April. Also, there will be a tribute to El Quijote by Infant and Primary Schools and a theatrical performance of fourth graders from CEIP Miguel Delibes, on 27 April.

Thursday 11 March sees an exhibition “Los Mendrugos: unos estudiantes de tebeo”  by artists of the magazine “Jueves”, Juan Alvarez and Jorge Gomez. On Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March, these comic authors star in a workshop for students of secondary schools in the Municipality of Mazarrón and the libraries of Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón. On Friday April 10,  la Asociación  Coleccionista del Sello de la Biblioteca de Puerto de Mazarrón opens another exhibition entitled  “La Literatura a través del sello”


In addition, every Tuesday and Thursday continues with the storytelling in the libraries of Mazarrón and Puerto respectively and also sees the return of cinema screenings for children on Fridays in Centro Cultural: Bambi (February 27), Cinderella (March 6), Tiana and the Toad (March 13th), Peter Pan (April 10) and Tangled (April 17).

NEW PROCESSION ANNOUNCED FOR EASTER MONDAY - MAZARRON

Holy Week in Puerto de Mazarrón extends this year its timetable of ceremonial events with the celebration of a Via Crucis which will take place on Easter Monday starting at 9.30pm. At that time the image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno will start from the fish market to be met by Santísima Virgen de los Dolores who leaves the Church of San José. This news was announced by the local Priest, Justo José Sánchez for whom it is a different processions event, "thus providing a time for prayer and deep meditation for Pasión del Salvador” , said Justo José Sánchez who invited the residents of Puerto de Mazarrón to come with candles to illuminate this event.

This news was announced after Mass on Ash Wednesday, held in the Church of San José de Puerto de Mazarrón. In a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Garcia, and the Councillors  of Culture and Celebrations, Ginés Campillo and Isidro Coy, President of the Council of Guilds Francisco Muñoz Osuna,  and the name of the Nazarene preacher for this year was announced . Distinctions were awarded to the Director of la Voz of Mazarrón, Antonio Balanza, and Confrade Aurora del Olmo, respectively. Balanza will read his proclamation on March 27.

In addition and as expected, the poster was also presented, which this year has been designed by local photographer Teresa Lopez Acosta. In a close-up image, Christo Nazareno is seen supporting the weight of the Cross, and secondly sees the Virgen de los Dolores showing her worth as a mother  seeing the suffering of her son.


The event was closed by Ginés Campillo Councillor for Culture and the Mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco García who asked the guilds to continue working to keep Easter alive and urged citizens to take to the streets as they have done previously, to live these days with faith and passion, both from the religious sphere and from the point of view of a cultural event.

GUIDED TOURS WITH MAZARRÓN TOWN HALL FROM FEB - JUNE 2015



Five Hiking Trails and Eleven Cultural Visits Reinforce The Tourism Promotion Of The Municipality of Mazarrón 

From late February through to June, there will be 16 new routes planned to show the natural wealth of the Municipality:

Walks
March 21st the Sierra de las Moreras offers a panoramic view of great beauty.

April 18th is the hiking route Barranco de Algezares, an amazing location that is not well known, despite being near the city centre.

May 23rd La Sierra de las Herrerías and June 20th is Cala Salitrona

All tours are guided and have appropriate liability insurance. They will last two to four hours, with varying difficulty depending on the type of route.


There are eleven cultural routes, visiting various attractions of Mazarrón:

A guided tour of the Minas de Mazarrón on 1st March, 10th May and 21st June.

Historic Walk in Mazarrón that includes a visit to Town Hall, Castle of Velez and Minas de Mazarrón on 11th April and 6th June.

Historic Walk in Puerto de Mazarrón includes the Roman Era Street House, the Roman Salt Factory and the Interpretation Centre for the Phoenician Boat on 15th March, 26th April and 17th May.

A Theatrical Visit to La Torre de los Caballos, Bolnuevo on 18th April and 31st May.
Like the hikers, all cultural tours are guided by accredited professionals, with maximum of 40 people to guarantee a satisfying experience.

Registration for the above can be done at visitamazarron.es or at Mazarrón Tourist Office, Puerto de Mazarrón. The departure time is 11am, except the visit to the mines which is 10am and the nature walks start at 9am.

MAZARRÓN BAHIA LIONS EVENTS - 6 & 8 MARCH

The Mazarron Bahia LIONS are holding a RACE NIGHT at the BLACK BULL on Saturday 6th March 7.00 for 7.30 start.
 
Come and get in the saddle with your whips out {only your whips} and join in the fun ,become the owner of a horse in each race and win a bottle of spirits ,or just bet on the winner of the race.
We have 8 races on video and can assure many of you have a good time.

Then on Sunday 8th March our LEOS are holding a STRIDES walk/bike ride to raise awareness of people with diabetes.
You are welcome to come along and join in with the LEOS ,you may even get your photo taken and put in the local magazines.

SAMARITANS IN SPAIN 2ND BIRTHDAY - 28 FEBRUARY

On Saturday 28 February 10am to 2pm Samaritans in Spain will be celebratng its second birthday at their charity shop in Punta Prima Commercial Centre.

There will be various stalls including homemade cakes and produce, tombola, card reading and many more.

The shop and drop in centre will be open as usual. Events such as this are very important to us, not only to raise awareness, but to fund our free, completely confidential emotional support service.
